This course is about the interaction of humans with extreme natural events likestorms, floods, earthquakes and droughts. We will examine how people become vulnerable to such events, how they are affected by them, how they contribute to causing them, how they cope-or fail to cope-and what they do when existing adjustments are unsuccessful
