The award from the Cultural and Political Ecology section of the AAG recognizes the "innovative work of an early career scholar in the area of nature-society relations, including research, teaching, and outreach." In announcing award, the committee wrote of Andrea that it found "your theoretical and grounded empirical commitments to political ecology scholarship groundbreaking, particularly your development of material histories and feminist geopolitical ecology as frameworks linking the Bolivian Amazon to global economic dynamics. We were also really impressed with your ongoing relationship with Bolivian activists and scholars, your commitment to student mentorship, the generosity with which you approach academic work, and your proposed next project, which we hope the FitzSimmons Award will help advance. It's clear you have contributed so much to nature-society scholarship already and will continue to do so -- as Margaret did and wanted to inspire in others".
