Climate and Society: Teaching for Transformation

Drawing from her new book, Robin’s talk will explore strategies for transformative teaching about the human and social dimensions of climate change. She will describe the book’s integrative framing of the social causes and consequences of climate change and will discuss opportunities for enhancing student engagement with transformative change.

Robin Leichenko is Professor and Chair of Geography at Rutgers and Co-Director of the Rutgers Climate Institute. Leichenko has authored or co-authored three books and more than 70 articles and book chapters. Her 2008 book Environmental Change and Globalization: Double Exposures (Oxford Press, with Karen O’Brien) won the Meridian Book Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work in Geography from the American Association of Geographers. Her latest book, Climate and Society: Transforming the Future (2019, Polity Press, with Karen O’Brien), shows how climate change is both a critical challenge for society and also an opening for transformation to a more sustainable and thriving world.
