Departmental Event - Mapathon - humanitarian mapping project
Wednesday, November 18, 2020, 03:00pm - 05:00pm
We've decided to keep our annual tradition of a mapathon and hold it online this year. As before, we will select a project on the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap platform. I hope that you will be able to spread the word among students, staff, faculty, and alumni!
Time: Wednesday, November 18, 2020, 3-5 pm (GIS Day during National Geography Awareness Week)
Register: https://libcal.rutgers.edu/calendar/nblworkshops/mapathon
Details: Help people in need by participating in a crowd-sourced, humanitarian mapping project. Together with fellow students, you will contribute geospatial data to OpenStreetMap, a free and editable map of the world that is used by communities, organizations, and governments worldwide to address local development challenges and aid disaster response. The exact project will be determined closer to the event. In past years, Rutgers students, staff, and faculty worked together on a mapping project to help NGO efforts with relief operations in Puerto Rico and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. No mapping experience or knowledge is necessary. Training will be provided. Join at any time during the scheduled event.
Sponsored by the Department of Geography and the New Brunswick Libraries.
Please feel free to send any questions my way!
All best,
Francesca
