The conference is called the Annual Meeting of the Middle States Division of the American Association of Geographers.
We just call it MSAAG or "Middle States". The conference makes a point of being welcoming to undergrads and is very low key. It's a great way
to get to know students at other universities, see a few talks, take part in a friendly competition, and eat free food.
The conference is on Nov 1 and 2 (Fri and Sat) at Westchester University.
There will be poster and paper sessions, a grad school fair, and the Geography Bowl. Geography Bowl is a friendly trivia/game-show style competition. Usually schools compete against each other. Last year Rutgers beat West Point in the final! It would be great to do it again.
If you would like to go, just send me an email. I'm collecting names, and we will register you, and I'll add you to an email list for coordinating travel. Again, it includes a free dinner Friday night! If you stay for Saturday, lunch is included as well.
Students also often present papers or posters at this conference. There are substantial cash prizes ($1000 for first place paper, etc). If you would like to submit an abstract to present a paper or poster, use this link. Let me know if you have trouble. The deadline for submissions is
Oct 18th. If you want to be considered for the paper or poster competition, it's Oct 11th.
Any other questions, let me know. If you have never been to a conference, if you're considering grad student, or if you just want to meet other Geography or ENVS students, this would be a great way to do that.
