Robert M. Hordon, 81, of Kendall Park, New Jersey, died on May 4, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Feldman) Hordon, his sons Laurence and Bruce, his grandsons Sven and Layton, and his brother Harris. An older brother, Monroe, predeceased him in September of 2017.

Mr. Hordon was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 10, 1936. He attended Brooklyn College where he received his B.A. in economic geography. He then served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. Subsequently, he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in geography from Columbia University. 

Mr. Hordon was a professor of physical geography at Rutgers University for 42 years. He was also a water resources consultant and served as president of the New Jersey section of the American Water Resources Association. He received the Peter Homack award from that organization for his outstanding contributions toward a multi-disciplinary understanding and management of water resources in New Jersey. 

Mr. Hordon served as a reviewer of geography and water resources textbooks for several publishers. He also served on the Environmental Protection Agency Star Fellow Award Committee, helping to select winning candidates from across the country. He attended international geographical and geophysical conferences in many parts of the world.

Mr. Hordon was a long-time member of Congregation B'nai Tikvah in North Brunswick, New Jersey. He was an avid traveler, swimmer, boater, hiker, and gardener. He was a very sociable person who enjoyed being with friends and meeting new people throughout his life. He took great pride in his children's accomplishments and delighted in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.

He will be missed by all who knew him.Arrangements were under the direction of the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick, NJ.
