This is a sample of the air photos taken by the late Dr. John E. Brush, while he was a Professor in the Rutgers Department of Geography. He took many pictures of New Brunswick, and the surrounding areas in Middlesex and Somerset Counties for research and teaching purposes during the period from 1952 to 1979. Approximately 700 of his slides are housed in the collections of Rutgers Special Collections and University Archives in Alexander Library.

John Brush and his interest in changing landscapes provided the inspiration for the Changing Landscapes of New Jersey websites the Department of Geography maintains. We started out with the simple idea to scan some of his slides to make them more easily available for use in class. However, landscapes keep changing, and the Department of Geography’s website offers a unique collection of photos and historical maps to compliment the John Brush Collection
