Geographers study the formation and meaning of place, spatial processes and practices, and the relationships between humans and their environments. Rutgers Department of Geography is nationally recognized for addressing critical contemporary issues such as unprecedented environmental change, the increasingly clear limits of development, and the necessity to account for and redress racial, ethnic, and gender injustice.
In addition to comprehensive major and minor degrees in Geography, the department administers Rutgers' Environmental Studies Program. The latter is a collaboration among more than twenty departments across the university which offers major and minor degrees in Environmental Studies.
